No marketing speak. Just the answers your accountant and your floor manager both need.
Card networks (Visa, Mastercard) charge processors different interchange fees based on how a card is presented. Tap (NFC/contactless) is the cheapest — the card never leaves the customer's hand, fraud risk is lowest. Chip is next. Manual keyed entry is most expensive because there's no physical card verification. Most processors bundle these into a single "flat rate" and pocket the difference. Swipe passes through the actual interchange cost + a fixed margin, so you pay less on every tap and chip transaction automatically.
Yes — and you should demand this from any processor. Monthly statements average everything together, hiding the bad transactions. Swipe's dashboard shows every transaction with: the interchange tier applied, the network fee, our markup, and your net revenue. You can filter by card type, terminal, or location. Franchise operators use this to benchmark performance across locations. Food truck owners use it to decide which payment methods to push at peak hours.
It depends on how you got the hardware. If you're renting from your current processor, it goes back — and you may owe an early termination fee. If you own it outright, you keep it. Swipe sells hardware at cost with no monthly rental fees. If you switch to us, we'll credit your first month of fees against any ETF your current processor charges, up to $300 per location. Our hardware runs on standard protocols — if you ever leave, your terminals still work.
Traditional processors charge you a single "flat rate" (e.g. 2.9% + $0.30). They pay the actual interchange (often 1.5–1.8%) and keep the rest. Interchange-plus means you pay the actual interchange cost, which varies by card type, plus a fixed markup we charge — typically 0.4% + $0.08. When a debit card processes at 0.05% interchange, you pay 0.45%. When a premium rewards card processes at 2.1%, you pay 2.5%. You see every component. Most merchants save 0.8–1.2% on overall volume.
Franchise and multi-location operators are our most common customers. One master login gives you: per-location P&L dashboards, consolidated reporting across all terminals, role-based access (your accountant sees reports, your manager sees daily sales, your cashier sees nothing sensitive), and a single support line that knows all your locations. We've built custom onboarding flows for operators adding 5+ locations at once.
Our mobile reader caches up to 200 transactions in offline mode. When connectivity restores, it syncs automatically. For food trucks and outdoor vendors: the reader stays paired to your phone via Bluetooth, so you only need the phone's data connection — not WiFi. In dead zones, you can still take card payments; they process the moment you get signal. We've tested this at farmers' markets, festival grounds, and construction sites.

"We were losing $2,400 a month in processing fees across our three locations and didn't know it. Swipe's fee breakdown showed us exactly where it was going in the first week."
"I run a food truck. My old reader died in the rain at a festival and I lost four hours of sales. Swipe's reader is IP67 rated. It survived a full rainstorm at Lollapalooza."
"Twelve franchise locations, one login, one support number that actually picks up. The consolidated reporting alone saved my accountant fifteen hours a month."
"Boutique retail. We were on Square at 2.6% flat. Swipe's interchange-plus dropped our effective rate to 1.71%. On $45k a month that's real money back in the register."
